Can the fruit of the Thunderchild Crab apple tree be used for jelly? Any recipes?

Wash apples; remove stems and bad spots. Add water and cook

apples until soft. Strain through a jelly bag to make 7 cups of

juice. Combine juice and pectin in a large kettle and bring to a

full boil over high heat, stirring constantly. Stir in sugar

completely and while stirring, return to a full boil. Keep stirring

while you boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat and skim foam from

surface. Pour into hot sterilized jars. Wipe drips from inside and

out of jars. Seal with hot lids and screw bands. Process 10

minutes in boiling water bath.

    Easy Sherry Trifle

    For 6 - 8 people

    1 pint milk (16 oz)

1 and a half oz custard powder (Bird's brand can normally be found here in British stores or Sweetbay supermarkets)

    2 oz sugar

1 sponge cake or a packet of lady fingers

1 package of jello (red is best)

    1 large can fruit cocktail

2 - 3 tablespoons sherry (can delete if necessary)

Dream topping, whipped cream or any dairy topping. (cool whip)

    Chocolate shavings.

    Cooking time 6-8 minutes.

Make the jello using slightly less water than normal. This will make a firmer finish. Cool slightly but do not let it get cold. I like to add more flavor to my trifle by using the juice from the can of fruit and water rather than just water.

Slice the sponge cake and line the bottom and sides of a dish. Take care to cover all the bottom of the dish and have side slices touching one another.

Pour sherry over the sponge. Add the drained fruit leaving a little for decoration. Next pour the jello over. Put in the refrigerator to set. By using less liquid in the jello it will set even quicker.

Make the custard. On the packet it will give the instructions. You will need the custard powder, milk, and sugar and basically stir them together until it starts to bubble and get thick. Set aside to cool slightly, cover with paper and a plate to prevent skin forming. If you are unable to find Bird's custard you can either make your own from scratch or at a push you could use vanilla pudding. However, the vanilla pudding mix really doesn't give the dessert that special touch.

When the jello is set. Pour custard on the top. Put back in refrigerator until set.

Just before serving add the cream or dairy topping. Spread it thickly over the custard. Finally place the fruit in the middle and decorate with chocolate shavings.

My mom used flour tortillas. You can cook dried apples or canned apple pie filling. Just put a tablespoon or two into the middle of the tortilla, fold over 1/3, then fold over the other 1/3 and use a wooden toothpick to hold it closed. Fry it in oil until browned, place on paper towel to drain and then cover with margarine. Absolutely delicious!

You'll need to continue juicing carrots and/or apples, because most vegetable juice is undrinkable without them, or tomato juice added. Beetroot juice for example - on its own its a bitter, muddy, earthy taste; mixed with carrot and apple juice, it's delicious.

Pineapple juice also works with carrot juice and other vegetables. Other fruit juices just don't work mixed with veg juice.

Bananas don't juice by the way, but are great blended with other fruit juices for a smoothie. Avocados don't juice either, but is delicious blended with veg juices .

Try carrot, apple, cucumber and celery for your first juice.

Deep fry in a fryer till golden brown at 400* about 3 minutes.

Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

Place 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream into 4 pretty little bowls and microwave them all at the same time for 20 seconds to soften the ice cream.

Add 4 won ton fruit crisps on top of each and serve to guests who think you are brilliant.

If using peach or apple, dust lightly with cinnamon.

If using pumpkin, dust lightly with nutmeg.

If using cherry, get out of the way or the sparks from the spoon hitting the bowl will put your eyes out.

    They are good. Really.

There will be a lot of filling left over from your can, unfortunately. A shame to waste it- but- you can always have cherry, peach, or apple pie filling with cottage cheese for a protein rich breakfast the next day. Or pour the filling over pancakes. The point is -- well there really is no point -- does there always have to be one?

Where can I find recipes for foods and desserts that may go with Miracle fruit?

I have heard of miracle fruit cafe which makes desserts and what not, but can not find many good recipes which go with miracle fruit. Please help me find a blog or something were someone has posted recipes.

P.S. For those who dont know miracle fruit alter you tastebuds by blocking sour receptors i believe. Thanks!!!Where can I find recipes for foods and desserts that may go with Miracle fruit?
The fruit is a small bright red, ellipsoid berry approximately 2 to 3 cm long and containing a single seed. Although not sweet itself, when a single fruit is eaten and the fleshy pulp allowed to coat the taste buds of the tongue and inside of the mouth, an extraordinary effect occurs. The fruit will now allow one to eat a slice of lemon or lime without wincing. The marvelous aroma and inherent sweetness of the citrus remains but the sourness is almost completely covered. The effect remains for some 30 minutes or more.

Miracle fruit works immediately after touching your tongue so be brave and dig in:

    * Goat鈥檚 cheese - tastes like cream cheese frosting

    * Blue cheese - $2 cheese tastes like $200 cheese

    * Sourdough bread 鈥?not sure seems to be better, eat with your blue cheese

    * Lemons, Limes 鈥?sweet!!

    * Grapefruit 鈥?candy!

    * Pomelo 鈥?not as good as grapefruit, but still great!

    * Tomatoes 鈥?imagine life sized cherry tomatoes

    * Honey Dew 鈥?brings out the soft subtle flavors

    * Cantalope 鈥?like honey dew, one time with miracle fruit and you鈥檙e a fan of these fruits for life

    * Granny Apple 鈥?best apple of your life

    * Strawberries 鈥?makes bad berries good; right off the vine good

    * Broccoli 鈥?amazingly the cooked stems taste like artichoke hearts

    * Cabbage 鈥?cooked tastes great

    * Mango 鈥?good

    * Grapes 鈥?almost too sweet

    * Pineapple 鈥?again almost too sweet

    * Cherry 鈥?tasty but too sweet

    * Rhubarb - (from WSJ - tastes like sugar stick)

    * Lychee - one of our reader's favorites

    Don鈥檛 try

    * Ginger 鈥?very overpowering, miracle fruit doesn't help

    * Radish 鈥?no difference in taste or intensity

    * Coconut 鈥?has no taste

    * Coffee - just heard it doesn't work

This is really one of those subtle life changing experiences. Not only will you gain a great appreciation for fruits and vegetables, but you will find yourself eating more of them even after the effects of the miracle fruit are gone.

Does anyone know of any good and easy pasta recipes to serve for babyshowers? and any fruit platters as well?

the expecting mother is having a girl...so anything pink wise will be great.Does anyone know of any good and easy pasta recipes to serve for babyshowers? and any fruit platters as well?
You could make Penne Pasta and Pasta Salad. I'm not sure what other things you are planning on having at the baby shower but you could also just do finger foods along with the pasta dishes. Finger foods such as: egg rolls, samosas, chicken wings, etc.

Fruit Platters: you can make fruit kabobs. Cut up the fruit into bite size pieces and spear onto a skewer. You could use fruits such as: apples, oranges, pineapple, banana, strawberry, kiwis and grapes.

You could make a fruit platter with fruit dip. You could arrange the fruit platter in separate groups and leave room in the center for a bowl for fruit dip (such as yogurt).

For pink - you could make cupcakes and decorate them with pink frosting and make cookies with pink sprinkles (or you could buy them). You could aslo get passionberry duo cake.

maybe strawberries and a fountain of chocolate as well (strawberries may not be pink, but close enough)Does anyone know of any good and easy pasta recipes to serve for babyshowers? and any fruit platters as well?
Congratulations to the expectant mommy! And little girls are such fun! I've given a few showers, and this is a menu I've served:

Chicken tenders (marinated chicken breast tenders in Italian Dressing overnight and serve grilled with a peanut sauce and bbq sauce.

Pasta Salad (1 box rotelle pasta, cooked al dente according to package instructions; 1 chub dry salami, cut into cubes; 1 container crumbled feta cheese; 1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped; 1 bunch green onions, chopped; 1 can sliced olives, drained; 1 large bottle Berensteins Cheese Fantastico Salad Dressing (either the fat free or regular); mix the above and refrigerate overnight. Stir before serving.

Spinach Salad: Baby spinach, stems removed and slightly torn; 10 slices platter bacon, chopped, sauteed and drained; 1 can mandarin oranges, drained; 1 cup candied pecans or walnuts; 1 container feta or crumbled goat cheese; 1 bottle good french dressing. Mix all the ingrediants except dressing. When dressing this salad, use the amount you feel comfortable with.

Fruit platter: Fresh pineapple, kiwi, strawberries, orange sections, raspberries, peaches (if they are in season), with a marshmallow cream dipping sauce. Or, jumbo strawberries in a serving bowl with dishes of brown sugar and sour cream to dip in.

    Hot Rolls with sweet butter

Cheese Platter: Brie with mushrooms, Cambozola, Spanish Manchega, and a good Gouda; serve with artisan crackers and sliced baguette.

    Lemonade with Lemonade Ice Cubes

    Recipe courtesy Gale Gand

    Recipe Summary

    Difficulty: Easy

    Prep Time: 15 minutes

    Inactive Prep Time: 4 minutes

    Yield: 8 servings

2 cups fresh squeezed lemon juice

    1 cup sugar

1 gallon cold water, or to taste

    Fresh mint leaves

    1 orange, segmented

In a large pitcher, whisk the lemon juice and sugar until sugar is dissolved. Add the water to taste. Fill 2 ice-cube trays with the lemonade and place a mint leaf and a piece of cut up orange segment in each compartment. Reserve the rest in the refrigerator. When frozen, turn them into a frozen bowl or an ice sculpture and place on a buffet with the pitcher of lemonade beside them to serve over the ice cubes.

Notes about the recipe: I love making ice cubes with surprises inside that add more flavor to a drink once they melt. And why have a melting ice cubes dilute a drink? Make it from something flavorful and it will add rather than take away from the taste. At Tru I make pineapple water ice cubes with candied lemon rind embedded and serve them with plum or rhubarb lemonade.

A compote is a dessert drink most made of dried fruit cooked in sugar syrup.

Jam is very different. It is a preserve which is cooked in sugar and pectin so that it may set.

If you are a first time jam maker these tips will prove very helpful

    1. When making jam, slightly under-ripe fruit is better than slightly over-ripe. When you are preparing the fruit, take care to remove damaged or bruised pieces.

    2. You will find it easier to clean your jam pan if you rub the inside with butter prior to using.

    3. Granulated sugar is best for jam making. Caster sugar or brown sugar produce a lot of froth and are not recommended.

    4. You can cut down the amount of froth when you are boiling your jams by adding a knob of butter.

    5. Sugar will dissolve more quickly if you first warm it in a heat-proof bowl in a low oven while you are cooking the fruit.

    6. Pectin is a natural chemical that helps the jam set. Cook the fruit thoroughly so that all the pectin is extracted from the fruit before adding your sugar.

    7. After adding the sugar, allow it time to dissolve completely before the jam starts to boil. Do not over stir jam.

    8. When stirring, make a large ';figure eight'; to prevent sticking.

    9. Jam will become dark colored and sugary if you over boil it.

    10. To test if jam is at setting point - drop a teaspoonful onto an ice-cold plate and it should wrinkle when touched after a minute.

    11. If jam will not set, re-boil it with 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice or the recommended amount of pectin to each 4 pounds of fruit.

    12. A delicious flavor can be added when making marmalade. Simply add one pint pineapple juice instead of water for a delicious flavor.

    13. If homemade jam becomes sugary, stand the jar in a saucepan of cold water and heat slowly. This will dissolve the sugar.

Here is a simple Freezer Cherry Jam recipe

With a few ingredients, some freezer pectin, and fresh bing cherries, you can make this jam.

    * 6 cups bing cherries

    * 1-2/3 cups sugar

    * 1 pouch freezer jam pectin

    * 1 tablespoon lemon juice

    PREPARATION:

Place five (250 ml) mason jars in the dishwasher and run through the wash cycle to sanitize. Leave jars in dishwasher until you're ready to fill them.

Carefully pit cherries, remove stems, and coarsely chop themIn large bowl, combine sugar and the freezer jam pectin; stir well with wire whisk. Stir cherries along with their juice and the lemon juice into the sugar mixture and stir well for 3-4 minutes to dissolve the sugar.

Ladle jam into each jar leaving about 1/2'; of headspace. Wipe tops of jars with a damp cloth and place lids on jars; fasten securely. Let stand at room temperature for one hour, then label and freeze up to one year. When opened, each jar will last, refrigerated, for about three weeks. You can also refrigerate the jars for up to three weeks; I do that with the first one and freeze the rest, taking them out of the freezer and putting them in the fridge the night before I want to use the jam.

Sun tea recipes with slices of fruit?

I am looking forward to spring and summer I love using sun tea jars and the taste of sun tea . Do you know how to add fruit .(I know you have to cut the fruit or slice it ) but what are the health hazzards ?and how long do you let it sit in the sun with the fruit in it ? would appreciate any answers and help thanks a bunchSun tea recipes with slices of fruit?
You can actually enjoy ';sun tea'; in the Winter, too. Put the water and tea bags into a glass jar and set it up at the window where the sun will come first thing in the morning. Let it brew most of the day. Take the fruit that you want such as peach slices, strawberry halves, mango slices, etc. (all fruit needs to be fresh) Place the fruit in the freezer and let it freeze. This will replace most of the ice that would normally be used. Place fruit into individual tea glasses and enjoy.Sun tea recipes with slices of fruit?
    Hi !!!

Here is a very informative article for you to read...

    http://www.snopes.com/food/prepare/sunte…

I make sun tea sometimes %26amp; I also have never had any ill effects, but I would proceed by the guidelines as the above article suggests. As for the fruits, I would add them later after the sun tea has brewed...squeezing some of the fruits into the tea %26amp; then place slices of those fruits in the jar as you would do for a Sangria beverage...ENJOY!!!
I would make the sun tea and once it has brewed like you want it, then add the fruit and put into the refrigerator. I would not brew the sun tea with the fruit in it.

The more ice cubes you add the more watered down it gets. Having the fruit frozen helps acheive what the ice does with out losing the flavor. Why do blender/smoothie recipes always have the fruit be frozen?
Frozen fruit is used because it's less perishable, and then your smoothie is really cold! You can use fresh fruit... I do it all the time. Just make sure your juice base is cold and throw in some ice.

    FROZEN FRUIT DESSERT FOR KIDS

1 (6 oz.) can lemonade, frozen

1 (6 oz.) can orange juice, frozen

    2 (6 oz.) cans water

    1 (15 1/2 oz.) can crushed pineapple

    1 sm. jar maraschino cherries

1 pt. size basket strawberries with stems removed and rinsed well

3 bananas, sliced in 1/2 inch pieces

    1/2 c. sugar

Place first ingredients in blender. Gradually add strawberries, bananas and sugar. Blend well. Place in small Dixie cups with a stick after partially frozen or in Tupperware Pop-Sickle containers which come with a handle

    KID'S FRUIT SALAD

1 (16 oz.) can fruit cocktail, drained

    2 med. bananas, sliced

    1 c. mini marshmallows

    1/2 c. sour cream

    2 tbsp. sugar

    1/2 tsp. vanilla

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients; stir gently to combine. Refrigerate until serving time.

    FRUIT ROLL FOR KIDS

Use apples, peaches, pears or nectarines to make this yummy dried candy. The fruit can be canned, which is well drained. Use mashed or pureed fruit. Two methods work well.

First is the blender way. Peel and core fruit, blend until smooth, then cook 5 minutes in a saucepan over moderate heat.

Second is the freeze-defrost method. In advance, peel and core fruit and place it wrapped in the freezer. Remove from freezer an hour before using. Cook in a saucepan, mashing with fork as you go. Cook for 5-10 minutes. If very watery, drain. While cooking, add 1 teaspoon honey for each piece of fruit you are using. (Cook the different fruits separately, although you can cook 1 piece or a dozen of the same type at one time.)

Lay out clear plastic wrap on a cookie sheet. Use 1 piece for each piece of fruit you have cooked. Spoon mixture onto the wrap, staying away from its edge. Spread as thin as possible. If you spread another piece of plastic wrap over the mixture and press down with a wide spatula, it helps to make it evenly thin. Be sure to remove this top sheet of plastic before drying.

Place the tray in the oven (at night) which is turned on to its lowest possible heat or with just the pilot light on, and leave overnight, 6 to 8 hours. The plastic wrap will not melt. If it is dry by breakfast, remove from the oven and roll up the plastic wrap (with the dried fruit) as if it were a jelly roll. THEN PEEL AND EAT! It will last several months this wayLooking for recipes to get my kids to eat fruit any suggestions?
I'm not a parent, but this is a wonderful fruit recipe I have. Most of the fruits here can be found in an Asian market rather cheaply. ^_^

    Halo-halo (my mother's version)

    -Bananas, sliced thinly

    -Mangoes, cut into cubes

-Jackfruit, cut into strips (I love my jackfruit)

    -Shredded coconut

    -Toasted sesame seeds

-Canned lychees, drained of any syrup and halved

    -Crushed ice

    -Azuki beans

-Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired (I prefer to have none or only a little)

-Parfait cups or large glasses to serve it in.

Add as much of the different fruits as you like to the parfait cup, layering the fruit between thin layers of ice and/or cream. Top with azuki beans and toasted sesame seeds.
Smoothies, pies with fruit (apple, blueberry, peach), ice cream with fruit on top, cereal with fruit in it, juice mixtures that contain several fruit juices help them get more fruit variety, pancakes or waffles with fruit baked in or fruit on top, jello with fruit inside it... These are all fun, tasty foods that may get them to eat more fruit.
like the magic bullet commercial, just put fruits %26amp;veggies in a juicer. it tastes really good. or mix fruits with a chocolate sauce. make smooothies.
If it looks attractive it helps. I would cut up strawberries, put some in a dessert cup and top with lite cool-whip. You can use any fruit that way. Cut up apples with peanut butter is good, too.
try making custured add any fruit u want them to eat ..............

I love it hope they like it too!!
try making fruit salad, cut up apples, grapes, bananas, maybe strawberries and put some whip cream, and jello with it, maybe strawberry jello or you could just put some fruit into some jello, thats good too
you can try apple pieces mixed in condensed milk. Make natural jams and spread over toast and give them. Or mix fruits and top over ice creams.....The most simplest reason I give my daughter is - tell her that her eyes will sparkle if she eats carrot, her lips become more pink if she eats apples, etc...I just keep on giving some comparison for her to get hooked...basically kids are fussy...so you need to get them interested to eat even if its fruits...so tell them a story or relate to something they like...am sure they will eat...
try to cut them in different shapes, put them in the animated cups, top with whipped cream and their favorite chocolate or strawberry syrup

    hope they will enjoy it

Thanks!Looking for a website with recipes for fruit %26amp; pasta salads in large quantities - ie. wedding buffett?
Even though you will find a site that tells you how much, make sure you check your grocery store to be sure you are doing the most economical and least time consuming task! That would be the fruits that you do not have to peel and/or cut (strawberries, blueberries, cherries, etc. others have to be cut but be aware of the seeds, i.e., pick cantelope over watermelon). Pick what is in season as well. Also remember that lemon juice is a must because it keeps the colors fresh in fruit (if you stick strawberries in with grapes, cantelope, etc., they will go light or white without lemon juice and not look attractive).

Pasta salad is pretty easy to make, but depending on where you live and your time, you may find that cheaper to purchase, and be aware of your kitchen limitations, i.e., storage, etc. I would do a cost analysis first and foremost, if you do not have the frig space, the bowls, the day-before time (yikes), then it might not be worth it for a few extra bucks.

I would suggest contacting the ladies group at the church, see if you can just buy the ingredients, they make it and store it at the church for you. I've done that and it's beneficial for the church, the ladies who enjoy doing that, and it gives you extra time and less worry.Looking for a website with recipes for fruit %26amp; pasta salads in large quantities - ie. wedding buffett?

Preheat oven to gas mark 4/180潞C. Line a baking tray with baking parchment and draw a 20-23cm circle on the paper. I often don't, and just imagine what size the circle should be as I dollop the meringue on. This seems to work fine.

Beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until satiny peaks form. Beat in the sugar, a third at a time, until the meringue is stiff and shiny. Sprinkle over the cornflour, vinegar and vanilla and fold in lightly. Mound on to the paper on the baking tray within the circle, flatten the top and smooth the sides. Place in the oven. 2 cups chopped peaches

    1 cup seedless grapes

1/4 cup chopped maraschino cherries or strawberries

    pineapple rings

    lettuce

    sour cream

    maraschino cherries

Beat cream cheese, sugar, lemon juice, salt, and sour cream. Stir in blueberries, peaches, grapes, and chopped cherries.

Place paper liners in 16 muffin tins, fill with mixture, and freeze. Remove salad from freezer about 15 minutes before serving. Peel liners and allow salad to soften slightly. Place each salad on a pineapple ring resting on a bed of lettuce. Garnish with a dollop of sour cream and top with a maraschino cherry or strawberry.
    EASIEST EVER FRUIT SALAD

1-30 oz. can fruit cocktail, drained*

1-11 oz. can mandarin oranges, drained*

1- 20 oz. can pineapple chunks, do not drain*

2 firm bananas, sliced approx. 1 in. thick, optional

1 box instant vanilla pudding *

Combine all ingredients, stirring until dry pudding moisture is fully incorporated into the fruit mixture. Salad will appear to be runny, but will thicken as the pudding absorbs the pineapple juice. Chill for at least 1/2 hour or overnight. Stir before serving.

If salad sits for longer than 4 hours before serving, I have found that it is best to add the optional sliced bananas just before serving, as they will brown slightly, however, it will only affect the appearance, not the flavor of the salad if the bananas darken.

Variations include adding other canned or fresh fruits, using another flavor of pudding mix, such as lemon, coconut, banana, etc. When my children were younger I would add marshmallows or shredded coconut, or even chopped nuts.

*Note: as a diabetic, I use fruit canned in juice instead of syrup, and sugar-free instant pudding. This does not compromise taste or quality. My family actually prefers it this way. When you serve this salad, you WILL get many compliments, and even recipe requests. Whether or not you feel guilty, because it was so easy is up to you - :o)

    ENJOY!!!
